Looks like Hayden Penn and Matt Albers have a leg up on the fifth starter job. Both Penn have thrown two scoreless innings the past two games. Two other candidates for that job are David Pauley and Danys Baez. Both struggled in their opening games this spring. John Parrish, my personal favorite, has not pitched yet this spring and may be the odd man out in this competition.
Well folks. 1st game of spring training and it looks like our worst fear. Who is going to pitch for this team? I believe Hennessey left the game with an injury. No word if serious or not. Not only did Pauley not look like a 5th starter, he looks as though he may not even make this team. A bright spot was Ryan Freel, I think he was a good pickup and will get quite a few at bats playing all over the field. Anyone who reads this let me know your comments on todays game.
Talk to you all tomorrow after the Cards game
The Baltimore Orioles are hoping that Rich Hill can regain his masterful curve ball and fix his control issues after a terrible 2008 season with the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs and Orioles worked out a trade for Hill that will give Hill the chance to crack the starting rotation in Baltimore. The Orioles will be sending the Cubs a player to be named later in exchange for Hill.
I like this move the Orioles as it gives them a cheap starting pitcher without giving up too much. I think the change of scenery will do wonders for a kid like Hill. What’s everyone’s opinion on this deal?
