The Orioles’ offense has been so horrendous, team president Andy MacPhail decided the time was right to start laying out ultimatums.

His first proclamation: Hit, or be demoted.

“I’m not staying with them forever. It’s not a suicide pact,” MacPhail told The Sun. “They either have to start performing or they’ll go to (Class AAA) Norfolk.”

Outfielders Luke Scott and Nolan Reimold (.200) have been the biggest strugglers of the bunch. Aside from the regulars, backup catcher Craig Tatum (.077) and outfielder Lou Montanez (.114) haven’t been pulling their weight, either.

The Orioles are still waiting for their first home run from a first baseman. Garrett Atkins, who went 1-for-3 Wednesday to boost his average to .273, has underperformed as well.
