The Baltimore Orioles lost once again to the Tampa Bay Rays as they were swept in all four games during the last three days. On Wednesday night it was a 11-6 loss to the Rays as the two teams finished up their series.

Radhames Liz pitched five innings and gave up five hits and five runs in the game. Four of the five runs were earned in the game as Liz took the loss and fell to 6-7 on the year. The O’s bullpen was pretty crappy on the night as well. Brian Burres gave up two hits and two runs, Rocky Cherry three runs, and Randor Bierd one run. Just a terrible night by the Orioles pitching staff.

Luke Scott had the only big hit for the Orioles as he had a three-run double in the in the first inning. Aubrey Huff and Oscar Salazar both had a rbi in the first inning as well.  Nick Markakis added a rbi single in the second but that would be all the scoring for the O’s as they struggled the rest of the game against the Rays.

It sure wasn’t the Orioles day on Wednesday afternoon as they were beaten by the New York Yankees 13-3.  The Orioles were attempting to sweep the Yankees in the three game series but the Yankees had other thoughts.  Those thoughts were lets light up every Orioles pitcher that comes into the game!

Dennis Sarfate was the starter for the O’s and he gave up two hits and five runs in only four innings of action.  Sarfate took the loss and is now 4-2 on the season.  Brian Burres was up next and he allowed four runs in only 1 1/3 innings.  Fernando Cabrera recorded only two outs as he was charged with three runs.  And not to be left out, Alberto Castillo gave up one run.

Nick Makakis, Aubrey Huff, and Juan Castro all had one rbi each for the birds but it wasn’t nearly enough.

The Orioles are now off until Friday when they will take on the Seattle Mariners in Seattle.

I will not have any updates on the blog until August 12th or so because I will be out of town attending a conference for the next few weeks.  If there is a Orioles fan out there that would like to write and do some game recaps, please email me by clicking the contact us link at the top of the page and we will talk.

Thanks, Cliff!

George Sherrill gave up a game tying home run to Miguel Olivo in the ninth inning as he blew the game and then Chad Bradford gave up a rbi single to Jose Guillen in the 11th inning as the Kansas City Royals came from behind to beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5.  The Royals finished the game by scoring four unanswerd runs in the game.

Brian Burres started the game for the Orioles and pitched five innings while giving up five hits and one run.  Ryan Bukvich gave up two more runs in only one inning of action.  Dennis Sarfate also gave up one run in the game.

Ramon Hernandez had a solo home run for the Orioles at the plate in the third inning.  The Orioles four other runs all came in the fifth inning when Alex Cintron had a rbi ground rule double, Nick Markakis a rbi single, Aubrey Huff hit a rbi double, and then Kevin Millar added a rbi single that scored huff.

The offense was good enough to get the win, but the bullpen just couldn’t do their job.  Next time out, I would pretty much bet money that Sherrill will do his job and get the save.

The Baltimore Orioles went in to Chicago and did what most people didn’t think could happen.  They took two out of three games against the Chicago Cubs and won the series.  The 11-4 victory by the Orioles was a great game as they pretty much dominated the Cubs all game long and got great pitching and timely hitting.

The Orioles scored 11 runs in the game but they did not hit one home run in the game.  Jay Payton went 2-5 but had three rbi in the game as he led the O’s at the plate.  Payton had a huge series against the Cubs and really racked up the rbi.  Nick Markakis, Aubrey Huff, and Guillermo Quiroz all finished the game with two rbi each.  Kevin Millar and Adam Jones didn’t want to be left out as they contributed with an rbi each as well.

Radhames Liz pitched five innings to improve his record to 2-0 on the season.  Liz kept he Cubs batters off balanced even though his curve ball wasn’t very affected.  Liz gave up four hits and two runs in the game.  Brian Burres pitched one inning and gave up three hits and one run.  Chad Bradford pitched the eighth inning an also let one run score.  Jim Johnson pitched the ninth inning and did not have any problems as he shut the Cubs down 1-2-3.

Two out of three against the Cubs is a big accomplishment for the Orioles.  Now they hope to carry that over as they play the Nationals on Friday.

We are currently looking for an Orioles fan that would like to blog here at orioleshomeplate.com  We are mostly looking for somone to cover game recaps during the week.  If you have any interest please use the contact us link on the page or leave a comment here and we will get back to you.

The Baltimore Orioles finished up a three game sweep again the Houston Astros with a 7-5 victory on Thursday night.  What a great series for the Orioles as they won all three games and improved their record to 37-34 on the season.

Ramon Hernandez, Alex Cintron, and Aubrey Huff all hit solo home runs for the Orioles.  This game could have really been a blowout had any runners actually been on base when those home runs were hit!  Even though those three players hit home runs, Kevin Millar and Jay Payton both led the team with two rbi’s each. Millar had a two run double and Payton had a two run single in the fifth inning.

Brian Burres earned the victory after throwing 5 2/3 innings.  Burres is now 6-5 on the season.  He allowed seven hits and three runs over his five plus innings of action.  Matt Albers and Jim Johnson both pitched well but George Sherrill allowed two runners to score that were charged to Dennis Sarfate in the ninth inning.  Sherrill was finally able to end the game and pick up his 24th save however.

Jim Johnson gave up two hits and the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 on Thursday night.  Johnson gave up the game winning hit to Robinson Cano who scored Hideki Matsui who singled to lead off the inning.

Johnson is now 0-2 on the season with a 1.44 era.  Just a bad outing by Johnson.  Starting pitcher Brian Burres pitched 7 2/3 innings in the game got the no decision.  Burres gave up  six hits and only one run in the game.  He deserved a much better outcome had the Orioles actually put some runs on the scoreboard.

The only Orioles run came in the third inning when Freddie Bynum tripled and Adam Jones scored.  Besides that triple, the Orioles only had four other hits in the game as they struggled against the Yankees pitchers.

The Baltimore Orioles struggled in every aspect of the game when they lost 4-2 to the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The Orioles gave up four runs, only had four hits on the night, and also commited two errors in the game.  No wonder why the lost…

Brian Burres took the loss for the Orioles and is now 3-3 on the season.  Burres only lasted 5 1/3 innings as he gave up eight hits and four runs.  Matt Albers pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to finish up the game without allowing a run.

Aubrey Huff and Luke Scott both had a RBI in the loss for the O’s.  Melvin Mora and Kevin Millar were the two other players that recorded a hit in the game as the Orioles struggled at the plate.

The Baltimore Orioles only managed to get three hits against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon as they lost 4-2.  Three hits is pretty damn bad, Orioles fans better hope that this is just a fluke and they Orioles come out and swing the bats better the next game.

The two runs that the Orioles did manage to get came on a two run home run in the fourth inning when Adam Jones went deep.  Other then that the other two hits came from Brian Roberts and Aubrey Huff.

Brian Burres gave up six hits and four runs in six innings of action as he took the loss for the Orioles.  Burres is now 3-2 on the season.  Four relief pitchers pitched the final three innings without allowing another run to cross the plate.

The Orioles will try to get back on track Friday when they start a series with the Los Angeles Angels

The Baltimore Orioles continue to play good baseball as they defeated the Texas Rangers 8-1 in Arlington, Texas.  The Orioles got homeruns from Scott Moore and Luke Scott early in the game and never looked back.

Brian Burres pitched six innings to pick up the win.  He did allow seven hits, but they didn’t come around to score so it didn’t really hurt.  Matt Albers and Greg Aquino pitched the final three innings without allowing a run.  Great job by all three pitchers today.

Aubrey Huff continued to swing the bat good as he went 4-4 with four RBI.
