Radhames Liz pitched five innings and gave up five hits and five runs in the game. Four of the five runs were earned in the game as Liz took the loss and fell to 6-7 on the year. The O’s bullpen was pretty crappy on the night as well. Brian Burres gave up two hits and two runs, Rocky Cherry three runs, and Randor Bierd one run. Just a terrible night by the Orioles pitching staff.
Luke Scott had the only big hit for the Orioles as he had a three-run double in the in the first inning. Aubrey Huff and Oscar Salazar both had a rbi in the first inning as well. Nick Markakis added a rbi single in the second but that would be all the scoring for the O’s as they struggled the rest of the game against the Rays.
]]>Dennis Sarfate was the starter for the O’s and he gave up two hits and five runs in only four innings of action. Sarfate took the loss and is now 4-2 on the season. Brian Burres was up next and he allowed four runs in only 1 1/3 innings. Fernando Cabrera recorded only two outs as he was charged with three runs. And not to be left out, Alberto Castillo gave up one run.
Nick Makakis, Aubrey Huff, and Juan Castro all had one rbi each for the birds but it wasn’t nearly enough.
The Orioles are now off until Friday when they will take on the Seattle Mariners in Seattle.
I will not have any updates on the blog until August 12th or so because I will be out of town attending a conference for the next few weeks. If there is a Orioles fan out there that would like to write and do some game recaps, please email me by clicking the contact us link at the top of the page and we will talk.
Thanks, Cliff!
]]>Garrett Olson only lasted 4 2/3 as he gave up nine hits and six runs. Definately wasn’t the outing that Olson was hoping for as he was rocked. As bad as Olson pitched, he still didn’t receive the lost. Fernando Cabrera took the loss ass he gave up two runs in one inning of action. Alberto Castillo and Dennis Sarfate both gave up one run in relief as well.
Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora both hit two run shots while Ramon Hernandez hit a solo home run. Mora also had a two run double and then a rbi single as he finished the game with five rbi.
The series is now tied at two games each with two more to play. Orioles Blog
]]>Garrett Olson tossed 3 2/3 innings and was pulled after giving up seven hits and seven runs. Olson also waked four batters as he didn’t have any control of the ball and was hit hard when he wasn’t busy walking other batters. Lance Cormier pitched the next two innings of the game and gave up three hits and two more runs. Fernando Cabrera and Greg Aquino were finally able to get things settled down as the finished up the game on the mound for the O’s.
The Orioles scored first in the fourth inning when Kevin Millar had a rbi single. In the sixth inning they pushed across six more runs as Adam Jones clubbed a three run home run and two rbi singles by Melvin Mora and Ramon Hernandez. Nick Markakis hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to draw the O’s within one but that was as close as they would get. The O’s put a lot of runs on the board but the pitching staff was terrible on the night.
So will the O’s come back and win on Thursday to avoid the three game sweep? Orioles Blog
]]>Jim Johnson gave up the winning run in the ninth inning as he took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season. Johnson gave up a fielders choice to Scott Rolen in the final inning where Alex Rios scored when Freddie Bynum had an error.
Starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera lasted 6 1/3 innings while he gave up six hits and four runs. Cabrera didn’t have his best stuff in the game that is for sure. Dennis Sarfate also gave up two runs in relief of Cabrera.
Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff led the Orioles at the plate with two rbi each. Huff hit is 18th home run of the season in the game as well. Adam Jones had one rbi as he contributed at the bottom of the order.
]]>Aubrey Huff got the Orioles on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two run homer. Huff led the O’s at the plate with two rbi. Ramon Herndandez also added a rbi single in the fifth inning as Markakis scored another run.
Daniel Cabrera tossed a complete game as he picked up the win and improved to 6-4. Caberea threw the ball very well as he limited held the Royals to only two runs on seven hits while striking out two batters. David DeJesus hit a solo home run off Cabrera to start the game but then he settled down and the only other run to score came on a double play in the third inning.
I think the Orioles will win on Thursday and take three out of four from the Royals. What do you think?
]]>Brian Burres started the game for the Orioles and pitched five innings while giving up five hits and one run. Ryan Bukvich gave up two more runs in only one inning of action. Dennis Sarfate also gave up one run in the game.
Ramon Hernandez had a solo home run for the Orioles at the plate in the third inning. The Orioles four other runs all came in the fifth inning when Alex Cintron had a rbi ground rule double, Nick Markakis a rbi single, Aubrey Huff hit a rbi double, and then Kevin Millar added a rbi single that scored huff.
The offense was good enough to get the win, but the bullpen just couldn’t do their job. Next time out, I would pretty much bet money that Sherrill will do his job and get the save.
]]>The Orioles scored 11 runs in the game but they did not hit one home run in the game. Jay Payton went 2-5 but had three rbi in the game as he led the O’s at the plate. Payton had a huge series against the Cubs and really racked up the rbi. Nick Markakis, Aubrey Huff, and Guillermo Quiroz all finished the game with two rbi each. Kevin Millar and Adam Jones didn’t want to be left out as they contributed with an rbi each as well.
Radhames Liz pitched five innings to improve his record to 2-0 on the season. Liz kept he Cubs batters off balanced even though his curve ball wasn’t very affected. Liz gave up four hits and two runs in the game. Brian Burres pitched one inning and gave up three hits and one run. Chad Bradford pitched the eighth inning an also let one run score. Jim Johnson pitched the ninth inning and did not have any problems as he shut the Cubs down 1-2-3.
Two out of three against the Cubs is a big accomplishment for the Orioles. Now they hope to carry that over as they play the Nationals on Friday.

A rbi double by Alex Cintron, rbi triple by Roberts, and a rbi single by Markakis gave the Orioles three more runs in the sixth inning.
Jeremy Guthrie pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs to get the victory. Guthrie wasn’t throwing the ball great, but he did a good enough job to get the win and actually got some run support this time. Guthrie is now 4-7 on the season.
The Orioles bullpen did run into some trouble however. Jim Johnson allowed one run and then George Sherrill had the bases loaded with zero outs in the ninth inning but then got the next three batters to strikeout. Sherrill struggled a little bit as he was brought into the game in th eighth inning and had to get the final four outs of the game. He was able to lock down how record his 26th save however.
]]>Melvin Mora had the big hit in the game which was a two run double in the eighth inning to give the Orioles the win. More finished the game with two rbi as well did Aubrey Huff. Huff’s two rbi came on a two run home run in the third inning. Nick Markakis and Freddie Bynum both helped out with one rbi as well.
